Colorado River Scenic Byway near Moab, Utah

(9/16) A beautiful drive to see dinosaur tracks.

We had information about two sites near Moab where dinosaur tracks could be seen. We stopped at the local office of the Bureau of Land Management to get specific directions and literature. They gave us a flyer on one site, but told us that the other had been closed. A well-informed volunteer then told us that an even better site existed in a place known only by word of mouth.

Following his directions, we turned off the main highway just north of town and took a road east to the La Sal Mountains.

Soon, we were stunned to find ourselves in the most beautiful canyon we had ever seen.

We were driving beside the Colorado River below unimaginably imposing red cliffs.

Here in the comfort of our car we were seeing a view that we thought only rafters on the river would ever get to see.

After we left the river and headed up toward the mountains, we saw this other amazing landscape.
