Yellowstone National Park 5

(9/5 and 9/6) Birding with Tony White.

Our last 2 days in Yellowstone were spent birding and wildlife viewing with our friend Tony White, who lives in Jackson, Wyoming and came up to spend some time with us in Yellowstone before we went to Jackson to visit him there. Much of what we saw with him was not photographable, such as small forest birds, a bull moose running through woods in the rain, and 3 active wolves seen at a great distance in Hayden Valley.

At streamsides, we looked for an American Dipper, but none showed up.

We did have several good looks at Black-billed Magpies, however, striking birds to see even if they are rather common.

Judy and Tony studied the ducks at Indian Pond, an old steam explosion crater near Yellowstone Lake.

One nice find was this Redhead.

A life bird for Judy and me was this Baird's Sandpiper, photographed along the Yellowstone River.
